For employees of all functions who have concrete questions and problems in current and future-oriented projects, for whom standard solutions are not suitable or available, the City Campus offers a methodical infrastructure that quickly leads to the core of the problem and unconventional solutions.
While the pilot phase in 2018 focused on the development of innovative residential and usage concepts for a building complex in the Bülowkiez district of Berlin with over 7000 m2 of usable space, the methodological and content offerings of the City Campus will be used by all employees as a catalyst for their projects from 2019 onwards.
The managers and project managers turn to the City Campus team with their specific questions or objectives and initial estimates of the expenditure involved. In a personal consultation, questions and methodical implementation are concretized. After this initial clarification phase, the City Campus topics to be worked on are published on the intranet. Employees who would like to play an active role in a topic can apply via an application form after consultation with the manager. The interested parties form temporary working groups.
The cooperation in the City Campus is characterized by mindset and methods of the design thinking approach. An open exchange of ideas independent of hierarchy and professionalism is explicitly desired and is supported by external process supervisors and the City Campus Team. With this approach, the City Campus contributes significantly to a company-wide development process away from silo thinking towards interdisciplinary, cross-hierarchical and cross-departmental project work. In the City Campus, we therefore not only develop concrete solutions, but also mindsets and working methods for our employees for a responsible and future-oriented design of Berlin.
